Is the Luxi seat really relevant?
InfaSecure have been manufacturing the Luxi car seat or its equivalent for the past 16 years; since the 2004 standards (with the model CS40/41). However on reflection this design of car seat has little to no change in the design. Unfortunately in my opinion making this an outdated version of an an Australia original a weight based seat.
What have the changes been?
I wonder how much shelf life actually remains for the Luxi car seat; with relatively small changes in design to the actual seat its self . Infa Secure made a small upgrade; with the belt path changing , bring the Luxi in line with the other model. In recent times Infa-Secure have extended the rear facing capabilities; therefore increasing rear facing from the minimum 6 months to 12 months. From most manufacturers this would now be considered the minimum. Infa also increasing the length of the actual seat itself to accommodate a possible 4 year old child in the harness; this in turn increased the booster height.
Best Safety Practice.
The Luxi car seat by Infa Secure does not meet any best practices most people would consider the following best practises;
- Easy adjust harness (no manual re-thread)
- Extended rear facing, (up to 30 months)
- Extended harnessing (6 point harness to 7+ years of age)
Drawbacks of the Luxi
The width of the Luxi by Infa-Secure is 48 cm: making this the widest car seat currently available on the Australian market. A locking device is imperative when installing the Infa Luxi in rear facing mode; in order to lock the seat belt to a single belt. As a result using a locking clip will prevent the seat belt rising up between the two seat section and into the back of your baby.
The biggest drawback of the Luxi is the the adjustable head rest; the head rest tends to loosen off over time; allowing the head rest to fall down from its set position to sit on your child’s shoulders. This often goes un-noticed by parents/carers, possibly causing discomfort for your child and potential un-foreseen safety issues.
Benefits of the Luxi
Despite all the drawbacks mentioned above, the Infa Secure Luxi is the best seat of the market for children that have hip dysplasia. The width of the seat is wide enough to accommodate a rigid brace. and the low sides allow a pavlik harness to be used easily. This seat can be hired easily from Travelsafe Baby Capsule hire either on a monthly basis or on a longer term basis.
