Safety 1st sentry-extended harnessing seat

Summary – Safety First Sentry Review

Not Recommended – The Safety First Sentry does not have a hassle free harness and the seat belt path is too complicated. With an RRP of $349 is is marginally higher than the Babylove EzyGrow at $319. If price was a determining factor then I would go for the BabyLove but would rather wait for the Maxi Guard or Evolve to come on special..

Introducing Safety First Sentry

When the public were told that the Maxi Cosi G seat would be released at the Adelaide baby show; we were all expecting that it would be branded under the “Maxi Cosi” banner.

Information released on facebook, reveals that the new G seat will be a Safety 1st G type seat called the Sentry.

Initial information on Facebook is that this is a rejigged Mothers Choice Victory A/B seat which is designed for 0 to 4 years of age.

Feedback from Safety First

It’s a different seat, the Sentry is a G Type seat, as previously said, it also features Air Protect, insulated cup holders and a different shell all together….

The Safety First Sentry will not have a hassle free harness; meaning that you will need to manually remove the harness straps from the spreader bar and re-thread the harness. Considering Both Safe n Sound/Britax and Infa Secure have a hassle free harness; it is surprising that Safety 1st do not have a hassle free harness also.

Safety 1st is also under the same company umbrella as Maxi Cosi (who recently have had a number of car seat recalls (see recalls.gov.au for official information)).

The new seat belt path, is designed to prevent the locking of the arm rest with the seat belt, and is 46 cm wide.

The Safety 1st Sentry is more spacious than the Safety 1st Custodian Plus II, the buckle now has two different positions to accommodate to a bigger child.

When the headrest of the Safety first is fully extended is 84 cm tall, with 6 adjustable headrest positions. The height of the Safety 1st sentry will be too high for many cars; such as the Honda civic, and the Mercedes A Class. All G type seats have entry marker of 29 cm and exit of 51 cm

Summary – Safety First Sentry Review

Not Recommended due to the fact the Safety first sentry; does not have a hassle free harness; and that the seat belt path is simply way too complicated. The c omplicated seat belt path; makes the task of installation too difficult for most parents. With an RRP of $349 is is marginally higher than the Babylove EzyGrow at $319; however if price was a determining factor then i would go for the BabyLove; but would rather wait for the Maxi Guard of Evolve to come on special..
